AN ISLE of Wight fossil hunter has recovered one of the biggest ammonites ever found on our shores.

Jack Wonfor of Wight Coast Fossils retrieved the 111kg Ammonitoceras from a beach in Chale.

It weighs almost 18 stone and dates back some 115 million years.

After extracting it from a rock, Jack somehow managed to stow it in his rucksack with the help of Theo Vickers and carry it all the way up Whale Chine.

The next step is to prise it from the surrounding rock to reveal the rest of the fossil.
