AN ITINERANT man facing a possible jail term after he seriously assaulted a woman, has been warned to co-operate with probation — for his own good — after rejecting a telephone interview.

Szymon Wrazidlo, of no fixed address, admitted inflicting actual bodily harm on a woman, in Shanklin, on September 15 last year.

The jobless 36-year-old, formerly of Barton Road, Newport, also admitted to further offences last year — assaulting David Horner by beating on November 13, and two counts of causing criminal damage, at Salvation Army hostel, Howard House, in Newport, on November 27.

Wrazidlo had damaged an electric heater, a plug socket and a fire extinguisher, and also admitted failing to surrender to police or court bail on January 19.

A previous bench, which requested a report on Wrazildo, warned him all sentencing options were open, which included imprisonment.

When he appeared before Isle of Wight Magistrates last Friday, magistrates received a 'nil' report, meaning probation were unable to write one.

For Wrazidlo, Amy Hosell said her client had been homeless the past two months and had not received his post, which was still being sent to Howard House and he refused to engage with probation on the phone, demanding he be seen face-to-face.

"He was frustrated and confused, which is why he was not particularly pleasant to the call taker," said Miss Hosell.

Presiding magistrate, Gordon Cooper, asked Wrazidlo about his mail: "If I wanted to send you a cheque for £1 million, where would I send it to? You see my problem?

"Due to the pandemic, face-to-face meetings are not always available.

"More importantly, it's not down to you to dictate what kind of appointment you're going to have.

"You have no excuses for not turning up for your next appointment, which is for your own good."

Wrazidlo was warned he must attend probation on July 3, assuring the bench he would comply.

He was bailed, with conditions not to go near his victim, to reappear for sentencing at the same venue on July 7.
