A pedestrian has been taken to hospital after colliding with a car on a major Isle of Wight road this morning (Sunday, May 28).
Police were called at 9am to reports of a collision involving a red Peugeot car and a pedestrian on Blackwater Hollow in Newport.
The collision happened near the crossing connecting the Shide to Sandown Cycle Track.
Blackwater Hollow, between the Blackwater junction and Highwood Lane, was closed for several hours while emergency services attended.

A spokesperson from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the pedestrian has suffered serious injuries and has been taken to hospital.
Police have now re-opened the road, and enquiries into the exact circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
