A main road through Sandown has been closed to repair a sinkhole, which has been described by drivers as a 'suspension destroyer'.

Beachfield Road has been shut to allow for a fix to the highway, Southern Vectis has said.

Locals say works to repair the hole were only carried out at the end of last week.

But photos appear to show it has started to reopen once again.

Yesterday (Wednesday) motorists posted to say it was "getting deeper".

A sinkhole also appeared on the road in 2015.

While the road is shut, a diversion is in place.

Southern Vectis has said its routes 2, 3, 8 and its coaster bus will divert.

The services will travel from Sandown High Street, to Albert Street, Victoria Road, Avenue Road and onto The Broadway.
