A Wootton man threatened to slice the throat of his former partner and smacked her around the face, a court heard.

Richard Taylor, 29, of Mary Rose Avenue, appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 16.

He admitted assault by beating.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said Taylor had been in a relationship with his victim for eight years but things turned nasty when his partner asked him to leave.

On January 31, he smacked his victim around the face with his hand, Ms Miller told the court, and threatened to slice her throat, along with the throats of other loved ones.

Magistrates adjourned the sentencing so a pre-sentence report could be drawn up by probation.

Taylor was granted conditional bail.

He will be sentenced on June 16.
