An Isle of Wight mum has spoken of her pride after her son was among a handful of Scout leaders to play a vital part in the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Larry Eeles grew up on the Island, the son of both a Cub leader and a Scout Leader.

His proud mum, Karen Eeles, who helps run Aspire Ryde, said it was only natural he should join Isle of Wight Scouts.

Larry later left the Island to go to university, before marrying and settling down in Hertfordshire.

After having four children of his own, Larry got back into scouting and he is now the assistant district commissioner of Royston Scouts.

He is also due to head to South Korea, for this year's international Jamboree.

This month, Larry was nominated to be among those to help out at the Coronation, supervising hundreds of young Scouts at a camp at Gilwell Park, near Waltham Abbey in north London.

The organisation's members played a key role over the celebratory weekend, stewarding and lining the route.

Participants were handed special badges and Coronation scarves and watched a private screening of the Coronation service, at St Margaret’s Church in Westminster, adjacent to Westminster Abbey.

Karen told the County Press: "I feel so proud of all he has achieved in his life - he’s a born leader and bossy like his Mum!"

Meanwhile, on the big day, Karen helped run Aspire Ryde's Coronation tea.
