POLICE and the RSPCA were called out to help a dog locked in the boot of a car in warm weather, at a popular Isle of Wight attraction.

The alarm was raised by Brandon Neal, commercial manager at The Needles Landmark Attraction, after he came across the pet in the car.

On social media, Brandon posted: "A warm day today and a beautiful dog was left in the boot of the car, while the owners were on the beach.

"Numerous messages went over the PA system, which covers the whole area, including the beach.

"Dogs are allowed on the beach and the boats."

People in their numbers took to social media to express their outrage, horror and disgust at the dog owners' irresponsible actions.

Brandon added: "Why bring the poor dog to leave in a hot car, in the boot?

"Please don't leave your dogs in the car. Dogs are welcome at The Needles and so many other places on the Island.

"I waited a considerable amount of time before the owners returned.

"The Isle of Wight Police and RSPCA were informed."

Hampshire Constabulary, however, confirmed they had no record of any reports about the dog in question.

"Dogs are welcome and should absolutely not be left in the car. Take them with you please," Brandon said.

The RSPCA continue to reiterate their strong campaign message that 'Dogs die in hot cars'.

"Many people think it's OK to leave their dog in the car, if they're parked in the shade, or the windows are open," the charity says.

"But a car can become as hot as an oven — even when the weather doesn't feel that warm.

"When it's 22C outside, the car could reach an unbearable 47C within an hour.

"It's very dangerous and will cause your dog suffering and harm."
