The opening date of Ryde's new bus station has been revealed.

Southern Vectis has confirmed the majority of its services will begin using the station from next week.

Buses have been running from temporary stops further along the Esplanade, while works on the new-look Ryde Interchange take place.

The project, aimed at providing better travel connectivity, is in its final phase.

Works to install a new junction at George Street and the Esplanade are underway.

It is being created to allow buses to travel from the new station directly up George Street.

Currently, they have to travel along the Esplanade and double back at the Dover Street junction to exit the town.

Southern Vectis said: "Improvements to the bus station will create a better environment for bus users and pedestrians making it easier and safer for vehicles to manoeuvre in and around the station."

The new bus station will come into operation from 5am on Tuesday, May 9.

All passengers, other than those wanting to use the route 9, will be able to board their buses from the new bus station.

Number 9 buses will temporarily depart from Stand C, until works are completed.
