Tributes are being paid to an Isle of Wight father-of-three, who died unexpectedly last week.

Friends of Sam Willis, from Newport, have set up a fundraiser to support his family and  to raise funds for Southampton General Hospital.

The 34-year-old passed away suddenly last Wednesday, following a short illness.

Sam's friend Kay Gayle said he had an ear infection, which led to mastoiditis and meningitis.

He leaves behind his partner of 17 years, Rochelle, and three young children, Ezra, 4, Marley, 6, and Reuben, 9.

Kay, whose husband was best friends with Sam, said: "We are all in utter shock and disbelief.

"I thought I’d start a little go fund me page as I know after speaking to Rochelle and Sam’s family they’d like donations made towards the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit in Southampton General Hospital.

"I also thought the money could be split two ways: between the department and Roch, to help support her in easing any financial worries she may have, and to provide money which could be used to give the boys fun days out when they're finding times tough or to put aside for them for the future."

Donations currently stand at £9,000 and the aim is to get to £10,000.

Vestas, the company where Sam worked, is currently flying its flags at half mast in tribute.
