THE DUCHESS of Gloucester arrived on the Isle of Wight this morning (Wednesday).

Her Royal Highness is carrying out a number of engagements across the Island.

At St Mary's Hospital, she is officially opening the newly-built Isle of Wight NHS Trust ambulance station, taking a guided tour of the facility and meeting operational staff and teams behind the running of the service.

She is also showing her support to the Island Games team which is travelling to compete in Guernsey later in the year, giving thanks to the team's two longest standing main sponsors, ICR TOUCH and Red Funnel.

The Duchess of Gloucester visited the West Wight Dementia Friendly Choir this morning, and was seen arriving by helicopter and being greeted by Lord Lieutenant Susie Sheldon and Cadet Corporal Jessica Atkins.

The choir meets every Wednesday in Freshwater, and is made up of people living with dementia, their family members and some carers.

Volunteer Jane Whittle said it is delightful group to belong to, and she has seen how the power of music and group support has been so beneficial to dementia sufferers and their carers.

Later this afternoon, her Royal Highness will visit Sandown and Shanklin Golf Club and Home-Start IOW, a voluntary organisation which offers support to parents and carers with at least one child under five to help them with the challenges of family life.
