SAINSBURY'S has apologised after discarded cable ties were left on the ground by staff members - despite a litter bin being just a few feet away.

On Monday, April 10, a member of Vectis Wombles, Adrian, visited Sainsburys in Newport and discovered the plastic cut cable ties on the ground near the advertising banner the ties had been used for.

Adrian informed a member of Sainsbury's staff and was assured the rubbish would be dealt with.

The next day, Vectis Wombles Gail and Wendy decided to follow up on the situation and found the cable ties still on the ground. They pointed out it was very near a litter bin.

They gethered up the waste and took them into the store.

A Vectis Wombles spokesperson told the County Press: "How embarrassing for Sainsbury's. It was suggested to the manager that staff who deal with this particular job should be informed and have some training."

They also suggested Sainsbury's switch to reusable cable ties.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: “Customer feedback is important to us. We’ve disposed of the rubbish and we apologise this did not meet our usual high standards.”
