A popular Isle of Wight attraction has warned visitors about a dead deer that washed up on a beach yesterday (Saturday, April 15).

The hoofed mammal washed up on the beach at Fort Victoria County Park in Yarmouth after Storm Noa, after it likely drowned on the other side of the Solent.

Posting on Facebook, Fort Victoria said: "Don't be alarmed. If you are offended by dead animals, it's between the slope and the sea wall, just keep walking and don't look."

A visitor yesterday, presumably offended by the sight of it, shrouded the body in plastic bags.

Fort Victoria said: "Please don't... We have seals feeding off the fort at the moment, and plastic bags in the sea look very much like jellyfish.

"We don't want dead seals on the beach too."

The removal of the deer's body has been arranged.
