A popular Isle of Wight pub has said it won't reopen as planned this month (April), and there are no guarantees when it will.

The Sportsman's Rest, on Main Road, Porchfield, has told the County Press it is struggling with increasing costs.

It was due to reopen on Saturday, April 1, but has had to put those plans on hold.

Ongoing repairs and staff shortages are also being blamed.

The Sportsman's Rest said it hopes to be back open for the summer season but it can't say for certain.

A spokesperson for the pub said: "We are unable to give any guarantees for reopening at this time and thank you for your understanding.

"We are, as with many other pubs, struggling with the considerable ongoing and increasing costs.

"We will give updates as and when they become available".
