A popular Isle of Wight pub has said it will no longer reply to reviews after being trolled by what it claims are "factually incorrect" remarks online.

The Eight Bells, in Carisbrooke, has said it always welcomes feedback, be it positive or negative, however recent responses have been "vexatious" in nature.

It claims numerous reviews have been made by individuals, across several platforms, including Trip Advisor, Facebook and Google.

"Of course, everyone is entitled to share their opinion, but the way in which this group have acted says more about them, than us", a post from the owners said.

"We are in no doubt that anyone reading their feedback will see that the reviews are false and are intended to deliberately mis-lead."

"Our team work tirelessly in an industry that has changed vastly in recent years.

"Far too often we hear of ‘entitled’ individuals who act without due care or respect for others in society.

"Quite simply we ask that you treat our staff with the respect and common courtesy they deserve.

"We know that you will have expectations of us, and quite rightly so, but when these expectations become unreasonable we will not hesitate to stand up for our team and our business."

The pub said it has taken the decision not to reply to reviews left online, not because it doesn't care, but "because leaving a reply won’t change what happened."

The statement added: "All reviews are read by us and discussed with relevant team members so that we can make changes, if needed."
