Shortly before 8pm, lifeboat crews from Yarmouth were sent out for the first time this year to assist in the multi-agency search, with the all-weather lifeboat tasked with searching the shoreline between Yarmouth and the Needles.

Meanwhile, Isle of Wight Police teams searched on land.

After several laps between Yarmouth and the Needles, alongside air support from coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-Solent, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to the station at 9.40pm.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have been contacted for an update.
