A civil enforcement officer was assaulted at a time when schoolchildren were arriving at Christ the King College and Carisbrooke Academy, sometime before 9am.

An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said of the assault: “We take abusive behaviour directed at our officers extremely seriously, and council staff should be able to do their job without fear of violence.

“This incident is a police matter and it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.

“We are supporting the civil enforcement officer involved.”
