OWNER of Haseley Manor, Professor Anthony Roberts, has written about his long and distinguished career as a plastic surgeon, helping people in wars, disasters and civilian life.

During Covid, Professor Roberts "had nothing to do" so decided to write, after many people told him he should write about his career.

He has now written the first two volumes of his memoirs, and has had endorsement from bookseller Sir Tim Waterstone himself.

The first volume, Scholarship Boy to Engineer, Plastic Surgeon and Sportsman, was published last year and is about his life from leaving school until 1985.

The second volume, Plastic Surgery in Wars, Disasters and Civilian Life, has recently been published and is about his work and travels for work in the UK and around the world from 1985 until his retirement last year.Isle of Wight County Press: Professor Anthony Roberts, signing a book for Claire Locke, IW deputy Lieutenant.Professor Anthony Roberts, signing a book for Claire Locke, IW deputy Lieutenant. Professor Roberts held a booking signing and talk at Haseley Manor, Arreton, on Sunday, where he gave a slide presentation, answered questions and signed books.

There is going to be another book launch and signing at Haseley Manor in June.

The bookseller Sir Tim Waterstone said about the books: “I found this an extraordinary account of Professor Anthony Robert’s extraordinary life, not least for the sense it gives of his immense professional skill, but of a real humanity which accomplishes it.”

All profits from the sale of the two volumes will be donated to Restore – Burn and Wound Research, a charity Professor Roberts set up 35 years ago.

You can buy the memoir locally from Waterstones and WHSmith, or from Professor Roberts himself from April 24 onwards.

Professor Roberts and his wife, Dr Vivian Roberts, bought Haseley Manor in 2001 and created a nature reserve there, which was visited by Prince Edward.
