A cow called Doris, from the Isle of Wight, is mooving tv viewers in the United States of America.

The famous Friesian, who lives at Reads Farm, near Calbourne, has become an unlikely TikTok sensation in the last few days, even appearing on CNN.

Owned by Mark Reed, Reads Farm is home to 200 dairy cows but, of them all, Doris is the favourite.

"We don't tell the other cows," employee John Brodie told the Isle of Wight County Press, "but Doris is a great character."

Doris's  social media stardom began when John sent his wife, Laura, a video from work, as he tried to encourage the herd out of their barn.

Doris, he says, was having none of it and appeared to be pretending to be asleep.

John said: "She took one look at me and put her head down, so she didn't have to get up.

"I didn't get that bit on video, but I started videoing at that point, because I knew she was messing me around.

"She's prone to a lot of characterful things. She's cheeky and she likes attention."

In the video, John can be heard saying, "Everyone's out getting ready milking, except for Doris.

"Doris. Come on. I can see your ears moving."

Laura shared John's video via her TikTok account and it went viral, before being spotted by online media organisation, Newsweek.

By Saturday afternoon, it had picked up 79,000 likes and 5,800 shares.

CNN picked up the story and since then, John and Laura have been getting messages from as far afield as Texas, Montana, Maine and Illinois, all of who saw Doris on the news.

Audio of the viral TikTok clip also ended up on the BBC's Radio One Breakfast Show.

John works full time at Mark's farm, which produces and processes Isle of Wight milk, before selling it through local shops and branches of Co-op.

John said: "Doris will often walk with me or Mark when we clean the beds off, licking or nudging for a scratch.

"We take huge pride in the care and welfare of the animals and we have many friendly cows in the herd, because they are treated well and with respect, so they treat us accordingly.

"Naturally, you develop certain bonds with particular cows.

"Neither me nor my wife, Laura, anticipated Doris getting quite as much attention as she has."
