A suspicious incident which saw a boy offered sweets, in an attempt to lure him into a stranger's vehicle, is being investigated by police, the Isle of Wight County Press has been told.

Officers said it happened between 3.55pm and 4pm yesterday (Thursday).

The suspicious incident has prompted three schools to issue a warning to parents, as the County Press reported.

It is said to have happened close to Dreams and Home Bargains, in the Gunville industrial estate.

An email sent to parents at Carisbrooke and Medina Colleges, and Carisbrooke Primary said a man and a woman approached a child.

Police said they were told a boy was offered sweets and asked to get in a vehicle by a person he did not know.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: "The local Neighbourhood Team have been made aware.

"Officers will be visiting the nearby Carisbrooke College and making enquiries in the area."

An email sent to parents at the three schools said: "We will be reminding all students to head straight home tonight and to not speak to anyone they do not know."

It is asking an anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour to report this to police on 101.
