Pupils in Newport on the Isle of Wight have been told to head straight home after school today, following a suspicious incident which saw strangers attempt to lure a child into their van yesterday afternoon (Thursday).

An email has been sent to parents of pupils at Carisbrooke CollegeMedina College and Carisbrooke Primary.

It says two adults, a man and a woman, approached a child on their way home from school yesterday.

They intended to get the child into their van, the letter said.

It is said to have happened close to Dreams and Home Bargains, in the Gunville industrial estate.

The letter said: "We will be reminding all students to head straight home tonight and to not speak to anyone they do not know."

Police have been made aware, the Isle of Wight Education Federation, which runs the two schools, has said.

The County Press has contacted Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary for a comment.
