This letter to the editor is about the Channel 5 TV programme, Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South:

At last, a programme showing how beautiful the Island is but what a disappointment the piece on Yarmouth was.

Instead of showing the town as the quaint, historic area plus the amazing annual Old Gaffers festival, it was just a free publicity exercise for an up market hotel that catered for the well to do, champagne sipping yacht owners.

Like the rest of the Island, there are interesting local people who organise many events that I'm sure would have been better viewing.

The scenery in the area deserved a slot as well, from the lovely old mill along the estuary, to the small side streets full of independent shops.

Let's hope the rest of the series concentrates more on the beauty and less on tourism.
