"When I said I wanted to be a comedian, my parents laughed...they're not laughing now!"

This one liner from the late, great Bob Monkhouse sums up the life of the stand up.

Now an Isle of Wight comedian is offering the chance to learn the skills needed at new classes in Newport.

Luc Valvona was on our TV screens last week in the Channel 5 series Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South and is taking the next step in his plan to create a comedy hub on the Island.

As founder of the Isle of Wight School of Comedy, and having taught weekly improvised comedy classes for the past year at Aspire Ryde on Tuesday evenings, Luc is now to teach afternoon classes in Holyrood Hall, Pyle Street, on Saturdays.

Luc, who featured as Victorian rapper, Baron Fortitude, on the Channel 5 documentary, said improvised comedy (or improv) is very easy to learn.

“You don’t need a script to have a conversation with someone, why do you need a script on stage?

"The main thing you need to learn in improv is to accept and commit to the reality of the scene and the comedy will flow from there."

Luc is currently working on a whole album of Victorian Rap and is set to appear in this year’s Ventnor Fringe in collaboration with Professor Elemental, one of the fathers of “Chap-Hop” (the style of mixing modern hip-hop beats with vintage samples).
