Water supplies are being rerouted after a burst water main on Parkhurst Road, Newport.
Southern Water has apologised.
A problem with a six inch main led to taps running dry, in some areas.
The utility firm told the County Press: "Our inspectors and a repair team are already on site.
"We are already re-routing water through our network, to bring the small number of properties who may be experiencing low pressure or no water back into supply."
The road is currently clear and is running without any problems and the repair site does not impact the carriageway.
