Islanders are being given the chance to find out how the Isle of Wight's museums and heritage organisations work and see how to get involved.
The Isle of Wight Volunteer Centre, Community Action Isle of Wight and Department are working in collaboration to put on a new event to showcase some of the Island’s museums and heritage organisations and the work volunteers are doing in keeping heritage alive.
The event is on today (Saturday, March 4) from 11am to 3pm, at Department, 29-30 Cross Street, Ryde.
Visitors will be able to handle objects and maybe even try something on.
Sandy Ciccognani, IW Volunteer Centre manager: "In my role, I have had the pleasure to visit some of these museums and heritage centres and am always blown away by the extent of knowledge being preserved and the passion shared for our heritage by a relatively small group of people.
"This event will help to showcase some of them and build connections with the wider community.
"For some it will be a time for reminiscing, for others a time to discover new things about the place where they live or the things that they love.
"You may even be inspired to volunteer some of your time or specialist skills to one of these groups.
"There won’t be any pressure to sign you up as a volunteer, but if you do want to support these organisations, your time is something that will be much appreciated.”
