A 101-year-old retired chef on the Isle of Wight has returned to the kitchen to raise money for the Turkey earthquake appeal.

Bill Smith, who lives at retirement housing complex Briary Court, Cowes, turned back the clock to cook and prepare a meal for a luncheon.

Donations were taken from those who attended, with proceeds being given to help aid efforts in Turkey and Syria.

Cherry Kingdom, manager at Briary Court, said Bill wanted to do anything he could to help.

Donations can be made:

She said: "He never fails to amaze us all at Briary Court.

"He was in my office within hours of the earthquake. And in a couple of days he did this."

Bill, who was the former Head of Catering and Community Studies at the Isle of Wight College, is asking Islanders to back his cause.

He said: "Would anyone be prepared make a similar donation?

"It would be greatly appreciated by all at Briary Court, and even more pertinently by the Earthquake Appeal!"
