EX-PUPILS of Yarmouth School visited the former site earlier this month (February 3) to discuss the future of what the town council describes as a ‘community asset’.

At the well-attended visit, Yarmouth Town Council’s (YTC) School Site Working Group members, who are looking into the future use of the site, met with IW Council cabinet members Cllr Debbie Andre and Cllr Chris Jarman.

Meeting with the IW Council’s decision makers allowed YTC's Working Group to open discussion on some of the suggestions from the Yarmouth community.

Nick Whittle of Whittle Marine discussed using the site to train apprentices in building traditional wooden boats with a group.

Local business owners were able to explain the impact that the school’s closure had on their businesses and addressed the economic health of the town.

The Working Group has met three times in the last four weeks and will continue to invite people from the community who are helping create a plan and business case for retaining the former school site as a community asset.
