The Isle of Wight College is promising to bring a new higher education digital centre to the Island, and expand its East Cowes CECAMM building.

The college has been given a share of £13 million in Government funding, as part of its involvement with the South Coast Institute of Technology (IoT).

IoT is a collaboration of five further education colleges and two universities, which aims to deliver a wide range of flexible post-16 technical education.

It's hoped it will increase education and employment opportunities for young people across the maritime, engineering and digital industries.

Thanks to the funding, building work is expected to start on seven capital grant projects.

Fareham College, Eastleigh College, Havant and South Downs College, Brockenhurst College, Solent University, Southampton, and the University of Portsmouth will also benefit.

Matt Johnson, the Director of the South Coast Institute of Technology, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for our education partners to work collaboratively with employers to provide clear career pathways into the industries where we know there are gaps."
