Sitting Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely has been chosen to represent the Conservative Party in the new Isle of Wight West constituency.

The only restriction is that it will be for any General Election which takes place from July onwards.

This is when the Boundary Commission changes to split the Isle of Wight into two seats are due to come into effect.

The decision to select Mr Seely for Isle of Wight West was made at a meeting at Newport Conservative Club on Friday evening.

Bob Seely MP said: "I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative Party candidate for the Isle of Wight West constituency, and I would like to thank the appointing committee for their support.

“Soon, the Island will have two Members of Parliament - one for West and one for East. I live in the Isle of Wight West constituency so it’s the natural choice for me.

“Naturally, I am disappointed to be losing the opportunity to represent the whole Island following the next General Election but, if I am given the honour of being re-elected, I will work with the MP for Isle of Wight East to ensure that we collectively speak up for the Island as a whole, in the same way I have done since 2017.

“For now, I will continue to represent the whole Island in equal measure until the next General Election.”

A Conservative parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of Isle of Wight East will be selected in due course, but former Sky and BBC journalist Harriet Hadfield, who lives in Seaview, and Young Tory, Isaac Farnbank, from Niton, have thrown their hat in the ring.

Other Tory candidates are expected to come forward in the coming weeks.
