An Isle of Wight mum has told the County Press she is 'stuck in limbo' as she tries to secure support for her child.

Her son was referred for an autism assessment back in May 2022, but after nine months the family has now been told it cannot take place until an assessment for ADHD has been completed.

They have already been waiting lists for 14 months and fear the Island's ADHD diagnosis service has been completely suspended.

In the meantime, the mum has opted for homeschool, to help her son cope with day-to-day life.

The family said: "We are stuck in limbo with no support.

"It's hard to get support from schools, or apply for an EHCP, without a diagnosis."

In September 2021, an Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) service for children was launched by Psicon, replacing a service run by the Isle of Wight NHS Trust.

Psicon was described at the time as a specialist in the assessment and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders.

The service was commissioned by the Hampshire, Southampton and Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) which itself was replaced, in July 2022, by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System (ICS).

When Psicon took over the ADHD service, health bosses said: "Our priority is always to ensure any service we set up is as safe and effective as possible, and that families continue to have access to vital care and support they need, here on the Island.

"We are working closely to ensure there is a safe and efficient transfer with no gaps in service for families."
