Hundreds of pounds worth of equipment has been stolen after a rural West Wight stable yard was broken into overnight.

Two generators were taken at some point on Saturday night into Sunday morning.

The stable yard is in Dodpitts Lane, between Newbridge and Shalcombe, and the theft was discovered when the owners arrived on Sunday morning.

A new Powertech PT6500WE generator which had been bought as a Christmas present, and a Briggs and Stratton Handy Gen 2500 (Quantum LSQ55) were taken.

Isle of Wight County Press:

The Briggs and Stratton was an older model, but was in good working condition. Together, the two generators originally cost approximately £500 to £600.

The theft has been reported to police.

One of the members of the family who owns the stable yard said: "Fortunately only the two generators appear to have been taken and whoever did it simply forced the lock off of the door, so there was minimal damage.

Isle of Wight County Press:

"The nearest houses are some distance away, but whoever did it must have made a fair bit of noise, because our horses were still upset when we arrived in the morning."
