The occupants of a three-storey Newport hotel on the Isle of Wight have been evacuated this morning, after fire broke out in its kitchen.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue crews were called to Newport Quay Hotel on Quay Street at about 4.30am.

Two crews from Newport were joined at the scene by firefighters from Cowes, Ryde and East Cowes.

They used breathing apparatus, two hoses, a thermal imaging camera and specialist equipment to ventilate the property.

At around 6.35am, they were continuing to look for hotspots.

The road remained closed at around 8.30am.

Isle of Wight firefighters were kept busy this morning, with two fires in Newport.

Those not at the Newport Quay Hotel were called to Robin Hood Street (details via link above).
