Moira Erwin, of Shanklin:

I read the article, Tour return ‘still a hope’ (CP 13-01-23) with some dismay.

The reason for the cancellation (I would prefer the term ‘postponement’) was the very sad circumstance of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. With the deepest respect, a circumstance totally beyond anyone's control.

Appreciating the start and finish are the most popular stages, and due to our location, the only options open to us, we need to stake our claim now for the race coming to the Isle of Wight.

We have made an extremely large outlay for hosting fees and other expenses. Is getting the total outlay back even feasible or realistic?

So I believe the discussions with SweetSpot should be targeting getting a race stage back on the Island, not just trying to recoup the money. Surely a deal can be made here?

Cllr Jones-Evans said “...we know what to do and there’s a lot of investment we can capitalise on.”

So come on, let the objective of our ‘robust’ discussions be to get this race back on the Island.

We can do this, we want to do this. SweetSpot you awarded us the chance before so do it again, let us show you what the Isle of Wight can do, 2024 would be good but we'll accept 2025!
