A new learning and training centre for adults and young people with learning disabilities is opening in Newport today (Sunday).

Based at 136 Pyle Street, the HOLT promises a variety of learning, social and enterprise activities for users.

Run by Islander Juliet Bell, who has worked in the field of SEND for many years, the centre also offers mental health support.

Among the activities on offer are community visits, photography, art, craft, woodwork and gardening.

A spokesperson for the centre said: "The team are always happy to welcome people for a chat about provision so do pop in and see them."

Living skills will also be taught, including personal care, home care, safety at home and in the community, road safety, budgeting and shopping, among others.

A mental health support group will be held every Monday and Friday from 10am to 2pm, while a parent/carer support group will take place every Thursday from 10am to 2pm.

Juliet is joined by Rachel, Julie-Anne and Jane, all of whom have extensive experience in the field.
