A POPULAR Isle of Wight farm cafe has closed its doors ahead of maintenance and preparations for its centenary celebrations.

Bluebells at Briddlesford Farm on the outskirts of Newport closed today (Monday, January 9) for essential maintenance.

In 1923, Charles Griffin walked across the Downs from Grove Farm in Adgestone with 15 Guernsey cows, his family and all their possessions to take up tenancy at Briddlesford Farm Lodge.

Bluebells cafe is run by Chris Griffin, wife of Paul Griffin - the great grandson of founder Charles.

To mark the anniversary, the farm will be celebrating its centenary every month, with updates posted on its social media pages and in the farm shop and cafe.

A spokesperson for the rural cafe said: “We’ve had the absolute best 2022 with all of our wonderful customers and can’t wait to start celebrating our success with you all!

“Keep your eyes peeled for sneak peeks of how things are progressing in the cafe via our Facebook page

“We can’t wait to show the cafe off to you all once we’re back!”

Bluebells will reopen, with its new look, on Sunday, January 22.
