STRONG winds on The Solent have forced the cancellation of Isle of Wight hovercraft services.

Hovertravel, which operates between Ryde and Southsea, said services have been cancelled due to adverse weather this morning (Saturday).

Tickets will be accepted on Wightlink's Fast Cat service, the company has said.

See Hovertravel's Disruption Contingency Plan web page for more details.

The next update will be at 12 noon.

All Wightlink and Red Funnel ferry services are unaffected and are running to timetable as at 10.15am.

UPDATES 12.44pm: Strong winds are now responsible for the cancellation of Red Jet services betwen Cowes and Southampton.

The 1.15pm, 1.50pm, 2.25pm, 3pm, 3.35pm and 4.10pm from Cowes and Southampton are currently cancelled, with the possibility of more being wiped from the timetable to come as the high winds continue.

Red Funnel car ferries between East Cowes and Southampton are unaffected.

Hovertravel continue to cancel their cross-Solent services. Their next update will be at 1.45pm.

UPDATED 2.50PM: Hovertravel will resume hovercraft services with the 3.15pm from Ryde Esplanade and the 3.30pm from Southsea.
