AN ISLE of Wight man caught by police with herbal cannabis in his pocket must fork out almost £200 in legal fees.

Wayne Lee Mitchell, of Leed Street, Sandown, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday (December 20).

The 32-year-old admitted possession of cannabis, in Newport, on October 4, 2022.

Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court Mitchell had been arrested on an unrelated matter.

When he was searched, a small amount of herbal cannabis was found in his possession – in a pocket.

The court heard he was last in court back in August of this year for criminal damage.

Henry Farley, defending, said Mitchell had not wasted anybody’s time and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

He said Mitchell did not have many drug-related convictions and the amount seized was worth less than £10.

Mitchell was fined £80 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £32 surcharge.
