The Isle of Wight gets a surprising mention in Tim Burton's hit new series about Wednesday Addams, on Netflix, starring Jenna Ortega in the title role, along with Catherine Zeta Jones and Christina Ricci.

Wednesday focuses on The Addams Family's daughter and her somewhat usual school days.

In episode two of the big budget show, she is quizzed about the etymology of a plant called the Ghost Orchid.

Wednesday informs the rest of her classmates that the carnivorous dendrophylax lindenii was first discovered on the Isle of Wight, in 1854.

We wish it was true but, sadly, it does not appear to be 100 per cent correct.

The critically endangered plant is not carnivorous.

It's a dendrophylax lindenii in the USA, but in Europe it's different - epipogium aphyllum - athough there was a discovery in England in 1854.

  • We can't find a reference to one being recorded on the Isle of Wight but we would LOVE to hear from you if you know more!
