Can you help a Ukrainian family bring heat, light and water to their relations back in their own country this Christmas?

Iryna Melnychuk and her two daughters, Nastya, eight, and Solomiya, six, have been living in the Brighstone area since June with hosts Sharon and Bob Matthews.

But they want to return to their home in the west of war-torn Ukraine to see their loved ones, including the girls' father, who has not been allowed to leave the country.

Since Russia started targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the family home has suffered long power cuts of up to 12 hours a day.

And little Solomiya has a kidney condition, which means she needs access to power.

The family are hoping to secure further treatment for her in the Ukraine after receiving some medical help on the Island.

Iryna is appealing to the Isle of Wight community for a 4000w generator to help them secure power for the house in Rivne near the Belarus border.

She told the Isle of Wight County Press: "We have found a man in Southampton who regularly takes a van to our country and he will transport it...but we are leaving on December 13 so need to act quickly.

"Maybe someone has an unused one in a shed or garage that we could use, or maybe an Isle of Wight business could donate one.

"Despite all the lovely things Bob and Sharon have done this, we are very sad as we miss our family so much and want to go home at least for the Christmas holidays.

"I miss my husband so very much and the children are counting the days until they will see their dad."

"However, it is very dangerous in Ukraine now.

"The shelling has destroyed critical infrastructure and damaged power plants, therefore our house has no light, heat and water for 12 hours each day, because all this depends on electricity."
