AN ISLE of Wight man has been sentenced for flouting a police dispersal order he couldn’t remember receiving.

Andrew Taylor, of no fixed abode, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old admitted failing to comply with a section 35 direction, excluding him from an area, on August 8.

Prosecutor, Ann Smout, told the court Taylor and two others had been drinking in Church Litten Park when police received numerous reports of anti-social behaviour.

Mrs Smout said Taylor was issues a dispersal order but returned to the area the following day.

She said there was no suggestion he was being difficult.

Unrepresented, Taylor said he was an alcoholic who drank every day and couldn’t remember officers handing him the order.

In breach of a conditional discharge for theft from a shop, Taylor was fined £100 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £16 surcharge.
