A FLOOD alert remains in place for the Eastern Yar on the Isle of Wight today and into tomorrow morning.

The flood alert says the water level in the river is high and rising, and in the last 12 hours, 25mm of rain has been recorded at Wroxall.

Although this is a modest amount, but it follows weeks of prolonged wet weather.

Today (Sunday) flooding of roads (including Golf Links Road and from early evening, Morton Common Road), cycle tracks, footpaths and gardens will occur throughout the Yar Valley.

The main band of rain has now cleared the area, but further showers are expected on Sunday afternoon and into Monday with 10-20mm forecast.

At Alverstone, the river may continue to rise until 6pm this evening, and is unlikely to peak until the early hours of Monday morning.

It is unlikely that property flooding will occur over the next 24 hours, however this is very much dependent on how much rain impacts the river later on this afternoon.

The flood alert will be updated by 12 noon on Monday, or sooner if there is a risk of property flooding.
