Passers-by enjoying an evening walk in Shanklin have had a lucky escape, after part of a cliff collapsed onto the beach.
A large part of the cliff now has a light-coloured scar where the earth has fallen away, after days of heavy rain.
Islander Paul Jefferies heard the moment it happened and told the Isle of Wight County Press about a loud rumbling sound, like thunder.
His photos show the size of the fall just along the beach from Rylstone Gardens and Appley Steps.
