The deputy manager of an Isle of Wight nursing home has won a top award for carers at a glitzy ceremony in Brighton, presented by The Only Way is Essex's James Argent, before dedicating her prize to her team and their residents.

Solent Grange Nursing Home deputy boss, Micha Legaspi, won the Social Care Nurse Award at the Great British Care Awards for the south east region.

The Ryde-based manager said: "To be recognised for something that I love and am passionate about means a lot to me. I was over the moon when they announced me as the winner! I was not expecting this."

She will now be put forward for a national awards ceremony in Birmingham, on March 17.

The Solent Grange Nursing Home team was also nominated for the Care Home Team Award at the event on November 18, at the Hilton Brighton Metropole.

The Great British Care Awards celebrate excellence across the UK care sector and pay tribute to those who have demonstrated outstanding excellence.

More than 500 people attended the black-tie ceremony, hosted by James Argent, from tv's The Only Way is Essex.

The team also enjoyed a three-course meal and entertainment from a Dolly Parton tribute act!
