THERE are several areas of the Isle of Wight at risk of flooding, the Environment Agency has warned this morning.

Here are the warnings, direct from the government website:

Flood warning for Carisbrooke and Hunny Hill on the Lukely Brook

The water level in the Lukely Brook at Carisbrooke is high and rising. Heavy rain has been recorded at Carisbrooke (26mm). This is a large volume in a short period of time.

The Aquatics Centre at Vicarage Walk near Foxes Road will also flood.

Water levels will be very high at Caesars Road and Old Westminster Lane, and the river could be out of bank, flooding roads and parked cars.

Most of the rain has now cleared the area which means that water levels should begin to fall this morning. If you have it, please install flood protection.

Flood warning for Whitwell, Wroxall, Langbridge, Alverstone on the Eastern Yar

The water level in the Eastern Yar at Alverstone is high and rising. Over half a month’s rain (70mm) has been recorded in Wroxall since Tuesday morning.

Currently the access track to Horringford will be flooded, restricting access. Golf Links Road, cycle tracks and footpaths across the Upper Yar Valley will be impassable.

From 12 noon today in Alverstone, the main road will flood near the main road bridge. Water will begin to surround property in Alverstone and Langbridge, where property flooding is possible.

Rain has now cleared the area. At Alverstone, the river will rise until 4pm. It will remain at its peak for several hours before the level begins to fall.

Flood warning for Sandown, Brading and Bembridge on the Eastern Yar

The water level in the Eastern Yar at Sandown is high and rising. Over half a month’s rain (70mm) has been recorded in Knighton since Tuesday morning.

Currently, there is extensive out of bank flooding throughout the Yar Valley. Morton Common Road and Golf Links Road are flooded.

Today, Fort Holiday Park and Sandown sewage works could flood as ditches struggle to drain to the main river.

The next high tide at Cowes is expected at 4.30am.

For about four hours after high water, property flooding is possible at Nicholas Close, Brading.

Rain has now cleared the area. At Sandown, the river is expected to continue rising until Thursday night. We are operating the sluice at Bembridge to manage water levels across Brading marshes. However, the neap tide cycle will restrict the amount of water which can drain from the river for the next four days.

If you have it, please install flood protection now. We recommend leaving it in place until at least Friday.

Flood alert for Lukely Brook

The water level in the Lukely Brook is high and rising. In six hours, 26mm of rain has fallen at Carisbrooke. This is in addition to the prolonged and heavy rainfall experienced over the last few weeks.

The river will already be bank full in most locations and could come out of bank from Old Westminster Lane to Towngate Bridge. Both surface water and the river could flood into the road and affect the bottom of Castle Street.

The heaviest rain has now cleared the area.

Flood alert for Eastern Yar

The water level in the Eastern Yar is very high and rising. In the last 48 hours, more than half a month’s rain (70mm) has been recorded at Knighton.

The river will flood gardens in Alverstone and Langbridge, and the main road at Alverstone.

At Sandown, Golf Links Road and Morton Common Road will continue to flood, and levels will be high at Sandown Bridge, the sewage treatment plant and Fort Holiday Park.

By 2am (Thursday), gardens will flood in Nicholas Close. Property flooding is a possibility throughout the Eastern Yar.

The river will peak at Alverstone at around 4pm, and on Thursday night at Sandown. We are operating the sluice at Bembridge to help reduce water levels across Brading Marshes. We will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages. Please take action now to ensure you can protect your property
