AN ISLE of Wight hairstylist scooped a regional win in the coveted UK Hair and Beauty Awards today (Sunday, November 13).

Shortlisted as a finalist earlier this month, Gemma McGuire, from Ventnor, has claimed the title of Best Hairstylist of the Year 2022 for the South East.

Gemma owns a little salon in Shanklin called GLM Hair, found on the High Street, and also works for the brand L’Oreal as an educator.

The UK Hair and Beauty Awards aims to unite businesses and individuals across the UK and celebrate the industry in style.

Gemma said: “This competition is huge in the hair and beauty industry, and I feel very proud to not only be a finalist, but to of won the regional title for 2022.”

“It feels absolutely unreal to have won a regional title, and to be completely honest I didn't even think I would have made it to be a finalist, so to of won it is a humbling, proud and crazy feeling.

Away from the salon, Gemma works as an educator of Matrix and covers the whole South East to deliver education to salons and colleges. She also works at the yearly Goodwood Revival, creating all vintage hair from the 1940s up to the 60s in Betty’s Hair Salon.

Recently, Gemma was asked to assist global artist Desmond Murray for Salon International in London.

Gemma said: “Assisting Desmond has been my highlight of this year watching him and assisting him to create three editorial looks for the Hairdressing Journal stage up at the Excel Centre was mind-blowing.”
