A FLOOD alert remains in place for the Eastern Yar today but the situation is set to improve, according to the latest goverment update.

The water level in the Eastern Yar remains higher than normal, but at Alverstone and Sandown, the level continues to slowly fall by 1cm per hour.

Avenue Road is currently closed near Morton Common Bridge due to high water levels.

Some minor impact flooding of roads (including Golf Links and Morton Common Road), and land is still expected.

From Thursday onwards, the weather is forecast to be dry and so towards the end of the week, the situation will finally improve.

The Bembridge sluice is being operated to help manage water levels at Brading Marshes.
