Flood alerts have been put in place for the Isle of Wight, for the Eastern Yar and coastal areas around Cowes.

UPDATE: Flood warning now added to two Isle of Wight flood alerts

The water level in the Eastern Yar is high and rising.

In the last 24 hours, almost half a month’s rain (44mm) has been recorded at Wroxall.

Water will be affecting low lying-land, cycle tracks and footpaths.

Here's where might be affected, according to the flood alert

  • Out of bank flooding is expected at Langbridge.
  • At Alverstone, the river will be close to the top of the bank. Property flooding is not expected.
  • At Sandown, minor flood impacts will continue to affect Golf Links Road and Morton Common Road. Ditches around Fort Holiday Park will struggle to drain while river levels are high.
  • At Alverstone, the river will rise until around 10pm.
  • At Sandown, the river will not peak until tomorrow morning.

From Monday to Wednesday, rain is forecast on each day.

Bembridge sluice is being operated to manage levels across Brading marshes.

The flood alert will be updated by 10am on Monday.

Coastal flood alert for the Isle of Wight

Monday morning's tide at 10.15am is higher than normal due to unsettled weather with strong South Westerly Force 5 winds.

In Cowes, for one hour either side of high water, very minor impact flooding will affect some seafront roads, esplanades and car parks. Water will be high up slipways in Cowes, affecting Medina Road and the floating bridge.

In East Cowes, sea water forced up through drains may cause very minor impacts to the road at Albany Road.

At 10.15pm‚ the tide and flood impacts will be similar to Monday morning.

At Medina Road, near the Floating Bridge, the tide may rise to be only 0.1m below the top of the front door steps.

The flood alert will be updated by 2pm on Monday.
