Remembrance looms this week, and for one man it is a poignant time for remembering his late father.

Henry Hector, 82, treasures photos of his father, also Henry, but is also lucky enough to have his war diaries, which outline the D-Day landing.

Henry is currently in respite care at St Vincent's Residential home with his wife Irene - they both have Parkinson's.

But Henry takes comfort in remembering his father and like millions across the country, will be paying tribute on November 11 and Remembrance Sunday by going to a service - he is off to St Mildred's Church in Whippingham.

His father was in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, as a petty officer on special operations, and part of the 35th S4R flotilla, and chronicled his time in handwritten notes.

Henry was born in 1940 so was a young child when his father was away in the war.

Henry said: "He was a Cockney and an absolute gentleman, and died in 1967.

"It was a great honour when in 2019 I was invited to Portsmouth to walk in the footsteps of the Allied commanders.

"I will be remembering my father on Remembrance Day."
