Isle of Wight Island Line train passengers should expect disruption, as a result of mainland strike action, in the coming days.

Operator SWR is expecting walkouts by RMT union members to impact mainland south coast services, between Saturday, November 5 and Thursday, November 10.

The impact will not be as big on the Isle of Wight, however.

Between Ryde and Shanklin during this period, a standard daytime timetable will run (where possible).

However, Island Line will be suspended between 7pm and 7am, on Monday, November 7 until Tuesday, November 8.

SWR says this is because Network Rail’s electrical control room operators, based in Eastleigh - from where power to Island Line is provided - will be taking part in the industrial action.

It means Network Rail will be unable to operate Island Line, overnight.

Elsewhere, strike days will see a severely reduced service, including on Guy Fawkes Night.

South Western Railway’s Performance and Planning Director, Steve Tyler, said: "We are grateful to our customers for their continued cooperation, patience, and understanding as the rail industry works to bring this damaging nationwide strike action to an end."
