I FELT I had to respond to Judy Bishopp’s letter (CP print edition, 14-10-22) regarding Ventnor Botanic Garden.

Yes the gardens were more “well kept” when owned and supported by the Isle of Wight Council.

Now they are different, but still provide a wonderful garden to visit — full of tranquillity and peace, not to mention the red squirrels and lizards which bring great pleasure to watch in the warmer weather!

The council employed Mr Goodenough and his wife to oversee the gardens, but I guess in order to save money the gardens were sold — and to make matters worse, the bus service to the gardens was cancelled!

However, I feel we are so fortunate to have such a garden and it is my favourite place on the Isle of Wight to visit, which I do regularly.

The same applies to my grandchildren when they visit me from the mainland, as it is one of their favourite places to visit.
