With more than 600 children on its waiting list and a medal-winning trip to Norway under its belt, Isle of Wight urban sports academy, Wight Tricks, is planning a major move.

It is currently based at Cowes' Prospect Business Park, where its teachers train young people in martial arts, free-running and acrobatics.

Now, the business is finalising major plans to relocate - which will mean a cafe, new gym facilities for its members, and lots more floor space.

Wight Tricks head coach and director, Robbie Bates, told the Isle of Wight County Press: "We've got loads of equipment on the floor and also the only gold-standard gymnastics sprung floor on the Isle of Wight. In the new place, the kids are going to have a lot more room to practice."

Wight Tricks has plans to move to a new premises on Somerton Business Park in Cowes in the coming months and a deal has already been signed.

A waiting area, shop and observation deck (via a mezzanine) are also among the benefits of its planned new home, as well as the ability to host visiting clubs from around the world.

The expansion plans include a chance to train young members in qualifications and to offer job opportunities, too.

Robbie is hoping the move will allow the academy to cut the number of people desperately waiting for a space to become available.

"Right now we have restrictions on how long we're allowed to open, including only for two hours in the morning on Saturday - when the kids are off school," he explained.

"We'll be able to run more classes and fit more children in.

"It's the most exciting project I've been involved in. It's going to mean a lot."
